It seems that we did not have a face book Page so I went and made one up for us!  Look for it on Facebook by typing in Mercedes Benz Club- Kansas City.  Just one more place to keep things updated.  I have no problems keeping things to up par on it just give me a buzz!

I won't be able to be there either and I don't understand why we cannot have one when there are other cities that do.  Where does this make sense?

Ian, this FACEBOOK topic was the subject of MUCH discontent around this time last year.  The Board of Directors directed Gene Ramp to take down a Facebook presence that he had created, until they had time to research how to present/represent our group on Facebook.  I'm pretty sure the major objectors from last year would continue to object today.

I would suggest, however, that you ask Jeff to include the subject as new business at the Board Meeting on August 7, after our Breakfast Meeting at First Watch.

I went ot the trouble of a special Board Meeting last Fall, and even brought laptops, big screens and Facebook Veterans to explain/demo, but the Board's decision at that time was to close the Facebook site that Gene had created, and to organize a technology committee (Melvin Price chairman) to report back with suggestions to the Board on how to proceed.  That effort seems to have stalled.

Maybe it is time to start talking about it again, but I can only advise that you present the Facebook issue with caution.  There are some that will fail to see the value in using that medim for our communications.  I regretfully will not be in town for the August Board Meeting, or the August First Sunday Drive, for that matter, and the September Board Meeting has been cancelled because of the elections and Aristocrat Tech Session.

This might be the right subject to tacke with the newly elected Board of Directors.

Anyone with a web browser can see this website and find out all they want to know about the club.  How is Facebook different?  Maybe the sheer volume of users?  Unless it requires a password to log in, no website is private.  I still don't understand the Facebook flap, but majority rules.

Maybe staying off Facebook makes us look more exclusive!

If I recall correctly, I believe that the major concerns centered around the security and members' privacy as well as the actual content and administration, and the control/responsibility associated with these points.  As you know, I'm a regular user of FACEBOOK, and don't have a major objection to the idea.  I do believe that those that do have an objection, very well may have a MAJOR objection to it.  It's certainly an issue to be dealt with by our Board of Directors and not on our section's interactive forums.

Links to ALL of our Officers' and Board Members' emails are listed elsewhere on this website.  I would suggest you discuss with them your concerns, and maybe get the discussion rolling, and a final decision.

This was a hot topic last year, and I'd prefer to take a diplomatic approach on its further attention.  Our group benefits by hard-working volunteers that spend endless hours for the good of the club; you included.  We have to be careful that it doesn't get too heated like before, and harm the relationships we have with all of these hard workers that do so much for the good of our club.
