Here are the details for Sunday, September 5th... Starting Point U.S. Bank at 119th and Roe Avenue Leawood, KS Starting Time : NOON Destination: Hillsdale Bank and BBQ Drivemaster: Mark Moody mark.moody@me.com
(driving instructions will be distributed on Sunday before we begin)
It’s really good when the members of a nationwide organization have the opportunity to meet together. Such was true when I had the opportunity to attend the MBCA Fall National Board Meeting in St Louis. I was able to compare notes with other section leaders and members of the National MBCA Board of Directors. It was nice to hear accolades as other sections heard about our own Spassnacht and the First Saturday Speaker Series that the Kansas City Section hosts every month. But, I came away from this particular outing with an event idea I’d like to implement, thanks to the San Francisco Bay Area Section. They have a unique program called the First Sunday Drive. This event focuses on the common bond between our members; our cars, and what we do with them; drive.
The task is simple enough. One drive sponsor is appointed for each of the 12 months of 2010. He/she is responsible to plan a route and a destination. The starting point will always be US Bank 119th & Row at Noon. We meet up on the First Sunday of the month, and follow the driving route as a group to our destination. Sometimes the final destination will be a secret until the Sunday Morning, and sometimes announced in advance. I think we want to keep it to 90 minutes or less from the I-435 loop, in any direction. We'll usually use some of the scenic back roads of the area, and finish up at a place for lunch/picnic, or roadside attraction.
There is so much to see within a short drive from home, so, why not experience it with your “Benz Buddies”?
Hope to see you at the next "First Sunday Drive!"

Yes, even if there's snow....
I talked to Jeff this morning, and he's already made a dry run (literally) for this Sunday's drive. He tells me that it's an easy drive, but a secret destination. He also tells us to pack the appetite, and we won't be dissappointed!
Hope to see you all this Sunday, February 7, Noon, at US Bank, 119th & Roe (accross from Town Centre) for the February First Sunday Drive.

Philip, is there a tease for Sunday's destination?
Hopefully, your drive will take us someplace warm. Houston, Miami, Baha? I guess those would be over 90 minutes from I-435.
I'm so tired of Kansas City being cold!
We'll see ya on March 7th

Sunday forecast is cloudy but with a high near 54!!! I'll take it. That's almost car-washing weather!
Any hints on the drive or desitnation? Anyone know if Phil likes to go off-roading?? :)

Kevin - 50+ degrees this weekend ----- YESSSSSSSSSS!!!
I hope it's the start of a spring warming trend. We've had a nasty winter here in the midwest and I am more than ready for spring.

Amen to that. It will be nice to get everyone out of "hibernation" mode.

Thanks, Philip for a great Sunday Drive! It really was nice to get out in the sunshine. The BBQ was great, too. Our best turnout yet.

So what was the mystery destination? We Be Smokin out in Paola? I just had too much to do at home to participate. I did get the ML washed though!! Glad there was a good turnout.

Our Drivemaster, Herr King, led us northward to Excelsior Springs where we enjoyed a fine BBQ meal at the 'Wabash'.
As John said, it was really good to enjoy the warm weather for our Sunday Drive yesterday.

Glad it was a great time, but now I have to work on an alternate destination for May. Ex Springs was going to be my target.

Kevin brings up a point I was thinking about now that I'm on deck for the September Sunday Drive. I'm wondering if the destination really should be kept a secret, or if the drive masters should at least let each other in on it to avoid this sort of thing. Any thoughts?

The drivemasters know who each other are... I've got no problem with them discussing their destinations... The January drive that's in the glovebox takes in Bonner Springs, Lansing, Leavenworth, and ends up in historic Parkville.
I would like to leave it up to the DMs if they'd like to surprise the drivers with their destinations. After all, it's the Drivemasters that volunteer and put all of the work into planning the drives.
Anybody else have an opinion?

I'll send an email to the other known drive-masters about my plans for May.

SNEAK PEEK FOR MAY: The May Sunday Drive on May 2nd will be a little longer than the others, but well worth the trip. We'll motor out to Topeka for a visit to the "Need for Speed" exhibit at the Kansas Historical Society Museum. There are several good restaurants in the area, so we should be able to plan a fun drive and a memorable trip. Stay tuned for details!!!
